We’re looking for a passionate Early Childhood Language Teacher (Auslan) to join our team at Highton Preschool. This role is part of the Early Childhood Language Program (ECLP)—a Department of Education initiative that supports children in the year before school to explore language in a fun, immersive way. In this position, you will work alongside and complement the Early Childhood Teacher’s program, enhancing and embedding language experiences within the existing curriculum rather than delivering a standalone program independently.

 

Your Week at a Glance

This position is a part time, fixed term position until 30 June 2027.

Hours and Work Pattern:

This role is 13.5 hours per week, supporting all standalone 4-year-old kindergarten sessions. It includes 9 hours of direct contact with children and 4.5 hours allocated to non-contact duties.

The position is worked across three days per week (4.5 hours per day). Due to rotating groups, there is flexibility in the work pattern. The three days can be structured as either:

• Monday and Tuesday, or
• Monday and Wednesday,
• with one additional day selected from either Thursday or Friday.

Start and finish times are flexible, with children attending between 8:30am and 4:00pm.

 

In this role, you’ll work alongside a supportive team of educators to plan, deliver, and embed Auslan into the kindergarten program. Through play, exploration, and interaction, you’ll help children discover language in ways that feel natural, inclusive, and inspiring.

Each day, you’ll:

• Deliver engaging, play-based Auslan learning experiences
• Co-plan with the Early Childhood Teacher, Educational Leader, and educators
• Create and source age-appropriate resources and activities
• Support children’s learning in line with the VEYLDF and ECLP framework
• Foster a learning environment where every child feels included, confident, and curious

You’ll also complete key components of the ECLP, including:

• A Language Proficiency Assessment
• The Early Childhood Language Teaching Methodology course (within your first two terms)
  

 

What You Bring, We Value

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• Native or near-native proficiency in Auslan
• A Bachelor or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ACECQA approved)
• Strong knowledge of the VEYLDF, National Quality Framework, and regulations
• Experience delivering engaging early learning programs
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• A passion for inclusive education and supporting children’s development through play

This position is classified under the VECTEA agreement (Level 1.1 – 3.6) depending on experience.
