The role
The Director of Junior School is a pivotal member of the College Executive Team, responsible for the strategic, pedagogical and operational leadership of the Junior School and Education and Care programs. Reporting to the Principal, this role works closely with senior leaders to ensure a coherent, contemporary and student‑centred educational experience across the College.
The Director leads a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement in teaching and learning, ensuring staff remain at the forefront of contemporary pedagogical practice. Through strong and authentic leadership, the role fosters collegiality, professional growth and a shared commitment to excellence across the Junior School.
Working in partnership with wellbeing leaders, the Director ensures a holistic, child‑centred approach that promotes student wellbeing, leadership and growth. Central to the role is the development of strong relationships with students, families and staff, building a connected and engaged community aligned with the College’s values and strategic direction.
The Director also oversees key operational functions including curriculum delivery, staff leadership, compliance requirements and program implementation, while contributing to whole‑College initiatives and long‑term strategic planning.
Key responsibilities:
Provide strategic, pedagogical and operational leadership across the Junior School and Education and Care.
Lead the development and review of contemporary teaching and learning practices, fostering innovation and professional growth.
Build and lead a high-performing Junior School leadership team aligned to the College’s strategic vision.
Oversee curriculum implementation (including EYLF and WA curriculum) and ensure high-quality delivery from 12 months to Year 6.
Drive data-informed practice through analysis of student performance and reporting to key stakeholders.
Lead professional learning programs that enhance pedagogical capability across teaching staff.
Ensure effective student wellbeing, leadership and pastoral care programs in collaboration with wellbeing leaders.
Engage proactively with parents and the wider community to build strong partnerships and positive relationships.
Oversee key operational functions including staffing, timetabling, reporting, student placements and policy development.
Contribute to whole‑College strategy, projects and decision-making as a member of the Leadership Team.
Manage Junior School budgets and ensure prudent stewardship of resources.

Desirable Criteria:
Postgraduate qualifications (or progress towards) in education or a related field.
Experience in an independent school or similar educational context.
Active engagement in professional networks and educational research.
