ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Lead Educator for our under-3s room at our 84-place Long Day Care Centre in Newtown. Our Centre is full of high-quality, intentionally selected resources to meet the diverse needs and interests of the children in an upcoming, culturally rich community. Our passionate and experienced Director is an incredible role model and support for our entire team.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, passionate and have a positive work ethic. We expect our Lead Educator to hold a recognised Early Childhood qualification, such as an Early Childhood University Degree or Diploma in Children’s Services, or be ‘working towards’. Tasks relevant to the role include the following.

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the educational program for under 3's in line with the EYLF and NQS (Quality Area 1)

  • Model best practice in pedagogy, inclusive education and play-based learning.

  • Promote a culture of critical reflection and continuous improvement.

  • Mentor and coach educators to strengthen professional practice and confidence.

  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to support individual and team growth.

  • Lead staff discussions, reflective practice sessions and professional learning opportunities.

  • Support educators in meeting compliance, documentation, and assessment requirements.

  • Contribute to the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and support service readiness for assessment and rating.

  • Stay informed of current research, legislation and sector best practice

  • Build respectful, professional relationships with families and external professionals.

  • Support family engagement in children’s learning and development.

  • Advocate for children’s rights, wellbeing, inclusion and voice.

  • Ensure programs are responsive to children’s interests, strengths and cultural identities.

  • Promote safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environments in line with the Child Safe Standards.

  • Participating in our Community Engagement Program to build relationships with the local community.

  • Engaging in critical reflective practice and documenting leadership decisions

  • Working collaboratively with your 2IC and Director, and acting on directives to make service improvements.

  • Engage in daily administrative duties, ensuring that practices, policies and systems are always maintained.

  • Reflecting on your performance and participating in probationary processes, which include Appraisals, SMART Goals, and strategy setting and demonstrated improvement.

TO JOIN OUR TEAM, YOU FIRST NEED TO MEET OUR ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Completed childcare qualifications such as a Diploma in Children’s Services or an Early Childhood Degree.

Graduate Diploma qualified applicants must have at least 3 years of experience working directly with children in an Australian Early Learning Centre.

  • Completed Child Protection, Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Senior First Aid and Red Nose training

  • Understand Child Safe Standards, Curriculum Frameworks and National Quality Standards

  • Demonstrated leadership characteristics to support a dynamic staffing team effectively. Previous Educational Leader experience

  • Demonstrated evidence in understanding curriculum frameworks, and the ability to mentor Educator practice

  • Experience in managing relationships in and outside of the Centre

  • Be solution-driven, positive and able to work with people from various backgrounds and learning levels

  • Demonstrate positivity and have excellent social skills

  • Have excellent spoken and written English capability

  • Be professionally presented at all times and be willing to abide by our uniform policy

  • Be reliable and can work independently

  • Have a current Working with Children Check (not volunteer)

  • Be willing to attend an in-person interview and provide up-to-date reference check details relevant to the role
