The College is excited to announce that we have a 0.8FTE opportunity available for an experienced Primary Learning Support Teacher, commencing Term 3 (13 July 2026).  Working closely with the Head of Primary Learning Support, the Primary Learning Support Teacher will assist in identifying, assessing, supporting, monitoring and evaluating students specific and diverse learning needs, in collaboration with other members of the College community. This will include learning support, gifted and talented, behavioural, and social/emotional needs. He/she will take a holistic and inclusive approach to academic support.
 
The Learning Support Teacher will provide a fair and safe learning environment at Suncoast where all students have equal opportunities, and that students with a disability are provided with opportunities to realise their potential through participating in education and training on the same basis as other students. The Learning Support Teacher ensures that children and young people with disability and additional learning needs have access to the services they need. He / she plays a key role in identifying students at academic risk and developing or revising Curriculum Adjustment Plans or Individual Support Plans for students who have been diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty.
 
Duties and responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:

• assist in the identification, development and facilitation of support in order to meet the learning needs of students (via analysing data on student achievement, observing and assessing students formally and informally and by examining the results of diagnostic testing)
• collaborate with teachers, external parties, wellbeing team members and stage leaders to ensure coordinated, holistic care for students
• accurately maintain a confidential register of students with individual needs, curriculum accommodations, government allocated funds and physical support including special arrangements for assessments and examinations
• organize special provisions for examinations including organizing readers and writers for external assessments, such as NAPLAN, in accordance with their requirements
• make adjustments to curriculum or approaches to learning and teaching, taking into account the educational needs of individual students
• develop, for approval by Head of Primary Learning Support, Individual Plans for students, including teaching and learning strategies for the classroom
• assist with the NCCD Data collection, collation and moderation
• plan, deliver and evaluate targeted literacy interventions to build foundational skills and improve student outcomes
• assist in embedding inclusive strategies across literacy and numeracy programs to support a range of learners
• attend year level planning meetings as required to provide input on adjustments, strategies and student progress
• provide professional support for classroom teaching staff in creating an inclusive curriculum and supports class teachers in the implementation of personalized learning practices and approved Individual Support Plans
• provide support and / or professional development for teachers and teacher aides to assist in differentiating for higher needs students
• provide direct, explicit and intensive teaching for students with specific needs, identified through assessments procedures in the form of small groups, co-teaching, conducting a class or supporting within the classroom
• provide detailed information for students transitioning to new schools, classes, years or stages
• integrate literacy and wellbeing goals, recognising the connection between emotional readiness and learning success
• promote independence by gradually releasing responsibility to students to build self-regulation and resilience
• attend parent meetings, parent / teacher interviews, school and team meetings as required
• provide advocacy and support for students with special needs, and lead and assist in the development and administration of learning plans and programs for them
• actively support students with additional needs during school camps and excursions, ensuring safety, inclusion and participation.

 
Skills and experience required:

• Current full registration as a teacher in Queensland
• Post graduate qualifications in Special Education, Counselling, Psychology or Social Work is highly regarded
• Sound knowledge of and experience in NCCD policies and procedures, including DSE (Disability Standards for Education); DDA (Disability Discrimination Act), ACARA and trauma informed practice
• Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and practices in regard to students with learning difficulties, disabilities and learning support needs
• Sound understanding of the academic, social and emotional needs of primary aged students
• Ability to implement proactive and restorative practices to support positive behaviour
• Demonstrated experience in an inclusive education capacity
• Demonstrated resilience, adaptability and the ability to respond to unpredictable classroom situations with calmness and flexibility
• Demonstrated ability to write appropriate and targeted student progress reports
• Demonstrated ability to select and use appropriately, a wide range of teaching and learning strategies and develop and implement Individual Support Plans
• The ability to utilize appropriate technologies to enhance teaching programs
• Knowledge and experience in working with a tailored curriculum
• The ability to work with students individually or in small groups
• Experience in developing classroom management strategies for students with challenging behaviours
• A commitment to the vision and Christian values of the College
• Strong interpersonal, communication, relationship building and problem-solving skills.
