Canteen Manager – Join Our School Community

St Stephen’s School is looking for an organised and proactive School Canteen Manager who enjoys working with people and takes pride in creating a welcoming space at the heart of our School. We’re looking for someone who can lead this space with care, energy and a strong sense of community, while delivering a high-quality, safe and efficient food service.

 About the role
As our Canteen Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the Canteen and play a key role in ensuring our students are well looked after each day. You’ll bring together organisation, teamwork and a genuine love of working with people.

 Your day-to-day might include:

• Planning and managing the daily operations of the canteen, including food preparation, service and stock control

• Keeping things running smoothly and ensuring food safety standards are consistently met

• Opening and closing the canteen each day

• Leading and supporting a small team of employees and volunteers, creating a positive and supportive environment

• Coordinating volunteer rosters and building strong relationships with our School community

• Maintaining daily, accurate records and documentation including canteen financial management

• Ensure adherence to WHS policies and procedures in daily operations, following safe food handling practices

This role would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on, thrives in a busy environment, and values connection with others.

Working hours
Monday to Friday, 7:00am – approximately 2:00pm, across 40 weeks of the School year.

Monday, 20 July 2026 (or by negotiation)

Selection Criteria (each point to be addressed):

Education and Training

• Desirable - Tertiary qualifications in canteen operations; Canteen Managers course or similar qualifications (e.g Hospitality, Food Handling) (or working towards)

Skills and Experience

• Experience in a similar role, preferably in a busy school canteen or kitchen.

• A demonstrated ability to effectively lead, plan, organise and control the day-to-day operations of food service, including finance and people.

• An ability to be flexible and adaptable and to make sound judgements and decisions when working with staff and students, taking into account Health and Safety practices and regulations; and School policies and guidelines.

• A demonstrated ability to be a positive team leader, motivate and work collaboratively with all members of the School community.

• A professional approach and strong work ethic

• Barista experience/training (preferred)

• Administrative experience – Working knowledge of WORD, EXCEL, cash handling and banking.

• Experience working with Quickcliq or a similar online ordering system.

• Some knowledge of purchasing and stock control would be an advantage.

• A commitment to customer service.

• Willingness to positively and actively contribute to the Christian culture of the School.
