Learning Leader – Mathematics
East Preston Islamic College (EPIC) is a K–12, independent, co-educational school located in Melbourne’s inner north. An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and highly motivated educator to join the College as Learning Leader – Mathematics. This leadership position is responsible for the strategic direction, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Mathematics curriculum across the Secondary School, including VCE Mathematics programs. The successful applicant will demonstrate exemplary teaching practice, strong curriculum leadership, and a commitment to fostering high-quality learning outcomes for all students.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the East Preston Islamic College Teaching Salary Scale (aligned with the Victorian Government Teacher Pay Scale), including any applicable leadership allowance.

Curriculum Leadership
Lead the strategic development, implementation, and review of the Mathematics curriculum across Years 7–12.
Ensure curriculum planning and delivery align with the Victorian Curriculum, VCAA requirements, and College priorities.
Lead the development of consistent teaching, learning, and assessment practices within the Mathematics faculty.
Oversee the development of scope and sequence documents, assessment schedules, and teaching resources.
Promote innovative and evidence-based teaching and learning practices within the faculty.
Teaching and Learning
Maintain an active teaching load within the Mathematics faculty
Lead and model exemplary classroom practice.
Support teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies that improve student learning outcomes.
Facilitate faculty meetings and professional learning opportunities.
Promote the effective integration of educational technologies into Mathematics teaching and learning.
Ensure differentiation and inclusive practices are embedded across Mathematics programs.
Support induction processes for new staff within the faculty
Assessment and Data Analysis
Coordinate the development and implementation of assessment programs and tasks, including semester examinations.
Facilitate moderation of assessment tasks and consistency of teacher judgement.
Analyse internal and external assessment data, including NAPLAN, PAT, VCE, and school-based assessment results.
Use data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
Develop strategies to improve student achievement and growth in Mathematics.
Report regularly to school leadership on faculty performance and student outcomes.
Support teachers complete school- based reports to parents and review the quality of reporting.
Student Achievement and Engagement
Promote high expectations and academic excellence in Mathematics.
Support strategies that improve student engagement, participation, and attendance.
Coordinate extension, enrichment, and intervention programs.
Encourage student participation in Mathematics competitions, challenges, and enrichment opportunities.
Work collaboratively with wellbeing and year-level teams to support student success.
Compliance and Administration
Ensure faculty compliance with school policies and VCAA requirements.
Manage faculty budgets and resources effectively.
Oversee textbook, technology, and resource procurement.
Maintain accurate curriculum and assessment documentation.
Contribute to school accreditation, review, and improvement processes.
College Contribution
Participate actively in the College’s pastoral care program.
Contribute to co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Attend and contribute to staff meetings, professional development programs, and College events.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Deputy Principal or Principal.
Position Requirements
Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education with a specialisation in Mathematics.
Demonstrated experience teaching Mathematics, including VCE Mathematics subjects.
Strong understanding of the Victorian Curriculum and VCAA study designs.
Proven capacity to lead curriculum development and drive improvement initiatives.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and support teams in a collaborative environment.
Strong data literacy and ability to use student achievement data to inform teaching and learning.
Commitment to ongoing professional learning and educational excellence.
