East Preston Islamic College (EPIC) is a K–12, independent, co-educational school located in Melbourne’s inner north.  An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and highly motivated educator to join the College as Learning Leader – English. This leadership position is responsible for the strategic direction, development, implementation, and evaluation of the English curriculum across the Secondary School, including VCE English. The successful applicant will demonstrate exemplary teaching practice, strong curriculum leadership, and a commitment to fostering high-quality learning outcomes for all students.

 Remuneration will be in accordance with the East Preston Islamic College Teaching Salary Scale (aligned with the Victorian Government Teacher Pay Scale), including any applicable leadership allowance.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Leadership

• Lead the development, implementation, and review of English curriculum programs across Years 7–12.

• Ensure curriculum planning aligns with the Victorian Curriculum F–10 and VCE English, Literature, and English Language study designs.

• Monitor developments from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) and implement required curriculum changes.

• Oversee the development of scope and sequence documents, unit plans, assessment tasks, and faculty resources.

• Promote innovative, evidence-based approaches to English teaching and literacy instruction.

• Lead curriculum mapping to ensure continuity, progression, and consistency across year levels.

Teaching and Learning

• Maintain an active teaching load within the English faculty

• Model exemplary classroom teaching and professional practice.

• Lead the implementation of effective pedagogical approaches that improve student learning outcomes.

• Support teachers in planning differentiated learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners.

• Promote the effective integration of digital technologies and contemporary teaching practices.

• Facilitate collaborative planning and moderation processes to ensure consistency of assessment and reporting.

• Encourage the development of students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical literacy skills.

Literacy Leadership

• Lead whole-school literacy initiatives and strategies in collaboration with school leadership.

• Support staff across all learning areas to embed literacy improvement practices.

• Analyse literacy data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

• Develop and implement targeted literacy intervention and extension programs.

• Promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning throughout the school community.

Faculty Leadership and Staff Development

• Provide leadership, supervision, and support to English teachers.

• Lead faculty meetings, professional learning, and collaborative planning sessions.

• Mentor and coach graduate, early-career, and experienced teachers.

• Support staff performance and development processes in consultation with school leadership.

• Foster a collaborative, reflective, and high-performing professional culture.

Assessment and Data Analysis

• Coordinate assessment programs and ensure alignment with curriculum standards.

• Monitor and analyse student achievement data, including NAPLAN, PAT, VCE, and school-based assessments.

• Use data to inform curriculum planning, teaching practice, and intervention strategies.

• Oversee moderation processes to ensure consistency and reliability of assessment judgements.

• Report on student achievement and faculty performance to school leadership.

Student Achievement and Engagement

• Promote high expectations and academic excellence in English.

• Develop strategies to improve student engagement, motivation, and achievement.

• Coordinate enrichment opportunities such as writing competitions, debating, public speaking, book clubs, and literary events.

• Support intervention programs for students requiring additional literacy support.

• Work collaboratively with wellbeing and year-level teams to support student success.

Compliance and Administration

• Ensure faculty compliance with school policies, curriculum requirements, and VCAA regulations.

• Manage faculty budgets and resources effectively.

• Coordinate the selection and procurement of texts, digital resources, and teaching materials.

• Maintain accurate curriculum, assessment, and reporting documentation.

• Contribute to school review, accreditation, and improvement processes.

College Contribution

• Participate actively in the College’s pastoral care program.

• Contribute to co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

• Attend and contribute to staff meetings, professional development programs, and College events.

• Undertake other duties as directed by the Deputy Principal or Principal.

Position Requirements

• Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education with a specialisation in Mathematics.

• Demonstrated experience teaching Mathematics, including VCE Mathematics subjects.

• Proven capacity to lead curriculum development and drive improvement initiatives.

• Strong understanding of the Victorian Curriculum and VCAA study designs.

• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and support teams in a collaborative environment.

• Strong data literacy and ability to use student achievement data to inform teaching and learning.

• Commitment to ongoing professional learning and educational excellence.
