 About the JCTS

Joint Colleges Training Services Pty Ltd (JCTS) is a national organisation with a focus on creating greater access, acceptance and participation in healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples and communities.

JCTS is a joint venture between the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). JCTS facilitates shared GP training activities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health initiatives, delivery of cultural safety training, mentorship, and supports GP training in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Manager WA, the Senior Cultural Educator will develop and lead a coordinated cultural safety and health education framework for the region that delivers on the key priority outcomes of the JCTS strategic plan and support the GP and RG training program in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

As the 2IC to the Regional Manager, this is a senior leadership role within the team, and you will help lead and manage a team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Educators, and work closely with Medical Educators, to develop and deliver Cultural Health Education and Safety Training to registrars and supervisors. You will also form strong relationships with key stakeholders to further the aims of JCTS’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health program. This is an important role leading and developing strong working relationships with our WA JCTS team and the community.

As the Senior Cultural Educator, you’ll also:

• Build strong relationships and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training.

• Work closely with the Regional Manager to lead a coordinated regional approach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health programs.

• Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance support to the Cultural Educator team to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of cultural education.

• Lead and support the development of culturally appropriate resources and initiatives that enhance support for GP Registrars, supervisors and practices in their medical practice

• Provide expert advice and guidance on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health to registrars, supervisors and partners at local, regional, state and national levels.

• Lead site visits and support ACRRM and RACGP accreditation processes of Aboriginal Health Training Facilities in collaboration with the cultural education team.

• Work closely with Regional Manager to evaluate key projects, including the delivery of Cultural Health Education and Safety Training and its impact.

• Promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training through engagement with registrars, medical students and community stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

• Strong personal responsibility, grounded cultural identity, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

• In-depth knowledge of regional community, traditional customs, and contemporary practices, including women’s and men’s business.

• Ability to engage and educate diverse audiences with sensitivity, empathy, and respect for cultural differences.

• Experience in designing and delivering Cultural Awareness and Safety Training, including developing presentations and small group discussions.

• Requires a current driver’s licence and flexibility to travel across WA
