Reporting to the Manager Creative Arts, this role provides specialist technical support across Melbourne Polytechnic’s Glass program area. You will help maintain high-quality studio and workshop environments, support the safe operation of specialist equipment, coordinate resources and consumables, and assist staff and students in achieving creative and educational outcomes.

This role suits a technically skilled and solutions-focused professional with experience in glass, visual arts or creative workshop environments who enjoys supporting learning through practical expertise and collaboration.

What You'll Do

• Maintain specialist glass studio equipment and facilities to ensure they remain safe, operational and industry-relevant
• Coordinate the preparation, storage and availability of equipment, tools and consumables to support program delivery
• Provide inductions, supervision and instruction to staff and students on the safe use of equipment and workshop facilities
• Monitor and maintain equipment records, manuals, maintenance schedules and resource plans
• Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and other health and safety activities as required
• Assist with pre-training assessment reviews and assessment-related activities connected to program delivery
• Liaise with suppliers, contractors and teaching staff regarding equipment, resources and technical requirements
• Source quotations and prepare purchase orders for equipment and consumables
• Investigate and adapt industry techniques and practices to support contemporary learning outcomes
• Prepare reports, documentation and recommendations relating to technical operations, equipment and facilities management

• Relevant degree, diploma or equivalent industry experience with specialist technical expertise in glass or a related creative arts discipline
• Experience working in workshop, studio or production environments supporting creative practice
• Demonstrated ability to maintain specialist equipment, facilities and technical resources
• Strong knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety requirements, particularly within workshop environments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance and instruction
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical and creative solutions
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Current information technology skills and experience using workplace systems and technologies
• Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, students and a range of stakeholders

• Experience supporting educational, training or student workshop environments
• Knowledge of emerging technologies, equipment and processes within glass and creative arts practice
• Experience developing learning resources, technical guides or workshop support materials
