Willoughby City Council is seeking an innovative and analytical Spatial Insights and Innovation Officer to leverage spatial intelligence, emerging technologies and advanced analytics, to deliver insights that improve decision making, operational efficiency and community outcomes.

In this role, you will develop innovative spatial solutions, apply AI and predictive modelling techniques, support digital transformation initiatives and collaborate across Council to drive innovation through data and technology.

About the Role

As the Spatial Insights and Innovation Officer, you will:

• Deliver spatial solutions, analytics and digital tools that enable informed decision making across Council.

• Apply advanced spatial analytics, AI, machine learning and predictive modelling techniques to generate actionable insights.

• Develop innovative tools including digital mapping platforms, interactive visualisations, 3D models, and digital twin environments.

• Integrate spatial and enterprise datasets to enable holistic analysis, forecasting and performance monitoring.

• Research, evaluate and implement emerging technologies that enhance Council’s spatial intelligence capabilities.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify opportunities for innovation, data sharing and continuous improvement.

• Prepare reports, presentations and insights for executive leadership, project teams and key stakeholders.

• Maintain strong data governance, quality, security and compliance standards across spatial and related datasets.

What You’ll Bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Spatial Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Demonstrated experience in spatial analytics, digital mapping, data visualisation and geospatial technologies.

• In-depth knowledge of AI, machine learning, predictive modelling and emerging digital technologies.

• Experience integrating spatial and non-spatial datasets to support advanced analysis and business outcomes.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata and secure data management practices.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and thrive in an environment of continuous innovation and change.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience in local government or public sector digital transformation.

• Familiarity with IoT, digital twins, and smart city technologies
