About the Opportunity

Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD scholarship in the areas of battery systems, power electronics, electric motors, and intelligent energy conversion technologies.

The successful candidate will undertake cutting-edge research supporting the transition to electrified transportation, renewable energy integration, and advanced industrial automation. The project offers opportunities to collaborate with industry partners and develop technologies with real-world impact.

Research Areas

Candidates may focus on one or more of the following topics:

  • High-performance electric machine design and optimisation

  • Permanent magnet and magnet-free motor technologies

  • Battery modelling, diagnostics, and state-of-health estimation

  • Battery management systems (BMS)

  • Electric vehicle propulsion systems

  • Power electronics and motor drives

  • Digital twins for electrified energy systems

  • AI and machine learning for condition monitoring

  • Wide-bandgap semiconductor converters (SiC/GaN)

  • Renewable energy storage and microgrid applications

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tax-free stipend of $36,000–$37,000 per year

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree with Honours Class I (mandatory)

  • A Master's degree in:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Mechatronics Engineering

    • Energy Engineering

    • Power Electronics

    • Control Systems Engineering

    • Related disciplines

  • Strong academic record

  • Be Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Demonstrated interest in research and innovation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
