Somerset Hills State School is seeking a passionate and proactive Youth Worker to join our team full-time until the end of the school year.

The successful applicant will work closely with students, families and school staff to support student wellbeing, engagement and participation in learning. A key focus of the role will be providing support to students experiencing social, emotional and mental health challenges, as well as assisting students to develop positive relationships, resilience and self-regulation skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and their families within a supportive school community.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

About the Role:

The Youth Worker will liaise with families, external agencies and school staff to implement strategies that promote student success and wellbeing. They will contribute to individual support plans, facilitate targeted interventions and assist in connecting families with appropriate services and supports.

Essential skills and attributes include:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and staff.
• Experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional or mental health needs.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practices and inclusive approaches.

Highly desirable:

• Experience working with students with disability, neurodiverse learners and students requiring additional support.
• Experience working within a school, youth, community services or human services setting.

Responsibilities:

• Build strong relationships between students, families, school staff, and external agencies.
• Monitor student attendance and implemented strategies to improve engagement and participation.
• Identified and support students at risk of disengagement or early school leaving.
• Conduct home visits and work with families to promote positive educational outcomes.
• Develop and deliver programs focused on social skills, self-esteem, and student wellbeing.
• Maintain accurate records, databases, and student support documentation.
• Advise school leadership on student welfare concerns and risk factors.
• Coordinate intervention strategies to address barriers to school attendance and success.
