About the role

We have opportunities available for a suitably qualified Security Officers at our Berrinba, Forest Lake, Ipswich, Maroochydore and Caboolture Campuses.

These positions are fixed term with an immediate start with the possibility of the contract becoming ongoing. Applicants with experience in the Education Sector will be highly regarded.

Security & Student Safety:

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students throughout the school day, including during classroom activities, breaks, and transition times.
• Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, using restrictive practices when necessary and in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
• Maintain security of the school premises, supporting staff with student supervision and responding to incidents in a calm, professional manner.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and leadership to address behavioural concerns and create strategies for student success.
• Record and report incidents, ensuring that all actions taken are in line with school policies and procedures.

Key Selection Criteria:

Qualifications & Experience:

• Certificate III or IV in Education Support (or equivalent) is desirable.
• Certificate II in Security Operations
• Security Licence 
• Current QLD Open Drivers Licence
• Experience in working with students with special educational needs, particularly in a special assistance or alternative education setting.
• Training and experience in restrictive practices and behaviour management strategies.
• First aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies regarding student welfare, restrictive practices, and special education or willing to learn

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
• Ability to respond calmly and professionally in high-pressure situations.
• A high level of empathy and patience when working with students with complex needs.
• Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate as part of a team.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain a secure and safe learning environment while supporting student engagement.

Desirable:

• Experience working in a security role or with a security-focused component.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and how to apply them in an educational setting.
• Experience working in a school or educational environment.

The applicants will hold a (Paid) Working with Children Card (Blue Card), and a current security license.
