ROLE SUMMARY

The team at MPAC is fun, flexible and committed to contributing to the continuing growth and development of the College. In a context where a love of God, a love of life, a love of learning and a love for others is encouraged, the Head of Co-curricular Performing Arts provides leadership, direction and accountability for the strategic development and day-to-day operation of the College’s co-curricular performing arts program. This includes oversight of music ensembles, dance groups, the instrumental and peripatetic lesson programs, school musicals, performances and events, and the communication, promotion and administration required to support a vibrant and growing performing arts culture across the College.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished musician and educator with a passion for co-curricular performing arts and a demonstrated capacity to lead and grow programs. They will bring strong organisational, administrative and communication skills, an ability to build student participation and performance opportunities, and a commitment to contributing to a rich and holistic educational experience. Presenting a professional image, they will be active in their Christian faith and committed to their local church community as they model lives of character, service and excellence.

REQUIREMENTS

• A degree in Education, Music or a related discipline from an approved and recognised tertiary institution

• Accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), where applicable

• Current Working with Children Check number for paid work

• Demonstrated experience in music education and co-curricular performing arts leadership

• Capacity to lead ensembles, programs, performances and events

• Demonstrated ability to manage administration, timetabling and communication in a school setting

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Peripatetic Lessons

• Oversee the delivery of the peripatetic lesson program across the College

• Liaise with tutors, students, parents and relevant staff regarding enrolments, schedules, attendance and lesson expectations

• Maintain records of student enrolments, withdrawals, tutor allocations and lesson arrangements

• Promote the peripatetic lesson program to students and families

• Coordinate reporting, performance opportunities and communication relating to student progress where appropriate

Music Ensembles

• Oversee all College choirs, ensembles and relevant communication with conductors, ensemble leaders and tutors

• Conduct some ensembles, choirs

• Lead the planning, organisation, communication, administration and supervision of performing arts related excursions, events and camps

• Encourage performance opportunities for ensembles both within the College and at external events, including but not limited to assemblies, College Events, showcases, festivals, Grandparents Day, Graduations, Music Evenings

• Support events such as Eisteddfods, the ASC Choral Festival, the HICES Music Camps and Music Tours (international and national tours)

• Responsibility for coordinating the annual musical

Administration

• Manage Apra/Amcos copyright regulations for ensembles

• Manage the instrument hire system and annual servicing and stock take

• Manage Music Tutors’ timetables, rooming, administration, invoicing and compliance

Instrumental Program

• Drive student participation in College ensembles and school band

• Maintain records on the withdrawal of students from ensembles in conjunction with Music Administration Assistant

• Promote co-curricular music opportunities to all students and families

• Oversee the employment, communication and direction of private tutors

• Produce and regularly update an ensembles tutor handbook outlining practices and procedures pertinent to the tutors

Dance Groups

• Oversee College dance groups across relevant year levels

• Lead the organisation, timetabling, staffing and supervision of dance groups

• Encourage student participation and identify pathways for extension and performance

• Manage communication with students, staff and parents regarding rehearsals, performances, costumes and expectations

• Encourage performance opportunities for dance groups within the College and at external events

• Support dance showcases, productions, assemblies and community performances

• Ensure appropriate risk management, child safety, supervision and compliance for all dance activities

Leadership

• Support and promote the College pillars, character formation, diverse co-curricular programs and events including but not limited to involvement in carnivals, camps and excursions

• Attend relevant professional development and network events

• Implement relevant programs, policy and legislative requirements, including the Code of Conduct, to ensure student and staff wellbeing and safety

• Attend meetings, parent-teacher interviews, events and playground duties as required

• Carry a teaching load and undertake duties as determined by the Principal or his delegate
