Karalundi College is seeking a caring, responsible and committed Hostel Parent to join our boarding team.

The Hostel Parent will provide day-to-day care, supervision and pastoral support to students living in the College's residential boarding facilities. The successful applicant will play an important role in creating a safe, structured and supportive home environment while encouraging students' independence, wellbeing and positive personal development

Task & responsibilities

• Provide care and supervision for students residing in the boarding house.
• Support students with their daily routines, including preparation for school, meals, personal hygiene, study and recreational activities.
• Supervise students during meals, evening routines and other residential activities.
• Plan, supervise and participate in after-school, weekend, sporting, recreational and social activities.
• Promote students' physical, social, emotional and intellectual development.
• Provide pastoral and emotional support and develop positive, respectful relationships with students.
• Encourage appropriate behaviour, maintain discipline and consistently apply College expectations and boarding-house rules.
• Monitor student wellbeing and promptly report welfare, behavioural or safety concerns.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, clean and supportive residential environment.
• Maintain appropriate records and communicate effectively with boarding staff, teachers, management and, where required, parents or guardians.
• Participate positively in the Christian community and broader life of Karalundi College.

Qualification & experience

Certificate iii with 2 years of experience or Certificate iv or above in youth work, community services, education, residential care or a related field will be highly regarded.

• Experience working with children or young people in a residential, boarding, education, youth, community or care environment.
• A genuine commitment to the safety, wellbeing and development of young people.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish appropriate professional boundaries while developing positive relationships with students.
• Ability to supervise young people and manage challenging behaviours in a calm and respectful manner.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a residential and school team.
• Cultural awareness and the ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal students, families and communities.
• Flexibility to work within the operational requirements of a residential boarding environment, including rostered hours as required.
• Applicants must be willing and able to meet applicable child-safety, screening and employment requirements.
