We are looking for an Educator who is equipped to fill the role of the Mobile Centre Coordinator/Room Leader. This role requires working directly with the children while providing active leadership to Educators in the development, implementation and evaluation of a child-focused education and care curriculum. This position requires you to travel and work in all GFSA Early Learning Centres.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a high quality education and care curriculum for all enrolled children that is consistent with: * The service philosophy, policies and procedures, * The National Quality Standards, and the * Early Years Learning Framework.* Education and Care Services National Regulations, * Education and Care Services National Law
  • Work together and provide support to the educators, motivating and providing professional leadership to build a culture of staff engagement and teamwork
  • Provide leadership and support in: * documentation of children and family information, * implementation of programming cycle, * evaluation of observations and planning, * implementation of plans, * reflection of own and team’s practice.
  • Demonstrate a high level of leadership through: * leading and being part of reflective practice discussions about practice and implementing high quality educational program reflective of current theories, practices and learning framework, * mentoring educators by leading quality practice, * consulting on professional practice issues such as routines and how to make them more effective learning experiences, * talking to parents about the educational program, * working with other early childhood professionals such maternal and child health nurses and early childhood intervention specialists, * considering how the program can be linked to the community by working with other community services such as Aboriginal Elders, * establishing systems across the service to ensure there is continuity of learning when children change rooms or attend other services, and then in their transition to school.   
  • Review all documentation relating to the curriculum within the service to ensure compliance with services policies/procedures and legislative requirements. 
  • Maintain a staff team within the Service
  • Implement a comprehensive staff orientation program
  • Implement effective staff rosters that remain within agreed staffing budget, ensure ratio compliance and ensure sound staff development and succession planning.  
  • Monitor staff performance inclusive of: * post-employment mentoring, orientation completion and probationary assessment. * regular (minimum annual) performance review. * individual learning and development plans for all staff
  • Monitor and manage staff individual and team performance to ensure it is at or above expectations.  
  • Build partnerships with Families
  • Support staff who are studying including those who are trainees (VET courses) or degree students and encourage their progress
  • Actively support the organisation’s Philosophy, policies and procedures and positively represent the organisation to external contacts at all opportunities.   
  • Actively participate in and contribute to cross-organisation projects and activities
  • Ensure the service’s duty of care to children and their families is strictly maintained.  
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all times.   
  • Implement and monitor effective WH&S practices in accordance with regulations, legislation and service policy including: * Compliance with Child Protection Legislation, policies and Service requirements, * The National Quality Framework, * Australia and New Zealand Food Standards, * Workplace Health and Safety regulations and requirements.   
  • Understand, implement and review emergency management procedures as required.   

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor qualification in accordance with ACECQA Approved Early Childhood Teaching Qualifications 
  • A willingness to be appointed as a Nominated Supervisor. 
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Room Leader or Leadership position that works directly with the children. 
  • Significant experience in a management position in Service based childhood settings and evidence of having providing effective leadership. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, the Framework for School Age Care and the National Quality Standards.    
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and documenting children’s learning.    
  • Thorough knowledge of centre administrative functions.  
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health requirements

Capabilities

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication, interpersonal and team development skills.    
  • Ability to lead the team in pedagogical matters including curriculum planning and professional development.    
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate policies and procedures.    
  • Computer literacy
