Task & responsibilities

  • Provide care, supervision and support to boarding students in a safe residential environment.
  • Assess student welfare needs and assist in developing and implementing individual support plans.
  • Monitor and document students’ physical, emotional, behavioural and social wellbeing.
  • Support students with daily living activities, personal development and life-skills training.
  • Provide mentoring, emotional support and guidance to assist students in achieving positive outcomes.
  • Supervise boarding students during after-school, evening and weekend activities.
  • Support positive student behaviour and wellbeing within the residential environment.
  • Assist students to participate in educational, recreational, cultural and community activities.
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, teachers, community organisations, families, government agencies and support services.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, incident reports and case notes in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and ensure student safety and welfare at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, child safeguarding requirements, policies and care standards.
  • Assist students in accessing community resources, support programs, training opportunities and essential services.

Qualification & experience

  • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Community Services, Youth Work, Residential Care, Social Services, Education Support or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting young people, vulnerable persons or individuals in a residential or community-based setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care practices, child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
  • Current Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain).
  • Current National Police Clearance.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
